Spring in Oregon

So, it’s spring in Oregon, which doesn’t necessarily mean sun.  We have sun and then we don’t.  Spring in Oregon basically means the trees are blooming and then the rains are coming along and beating the snot out of those trees.  Seriously, I think there are more petals on the ground here than on the poor cherry trees.

This now-I’m-sunny-now-I’m-not weather can also be difficult to dress for.  I mean, it’s spring, I’d like to wear spring-like colors but it’s also raining and sometimes pouring.  Today’s outfit is my attempt at a compromise:

I wore a skirt because it dries quickly but a bright yellow skirt (Eileen Fisher, thrifted) because it is spring, after all.  I paired the skirt with a gray tee (Old Navy) and a black cardigan (Gap) because Oregon’s spring weather requires layers.  I added cuffed boots (Gap) so my toes don’t get wet (I hate wet toes), a silver necklace-as-bracelet and a silver, fringe necklace (as necklace, Jessica Simpson Collection via Macys).

Happy Thursday, All!  I hope your weather is less psychotic!

  1. Kah-yute. I love the simple combo of yellow/black/grey - it always works. That skirt is so happy! I needed something happy today as we're having very Seattle-like weather here in southwest Virginia.

  2. Oh man. Oregon and Chicago have similar springs, it sounds like. NEARLY NONSENSICAL WEATHER PATTERNS AHOY! One day, no tights is totes appropriate, the next day bare legs sound like shivering. I don't even get Spring out here y'all.

I love this yellow on you too. It is so cheeeeerful.

  4. I really relate to your weather situation. I woke up this morning to clouds and rain, and now it's sunny and windy! Lately getting dressed has taken extra thought because 1) I don't want to be cold, but 2) I really don't want to be too hot. Usually throughout the day I'm one or the other, rarely reaching that perfect level. But today, I win. Short skirt, tights, clogs, cottom 3/4 tee... feeling perfectly content.

In other news, that yellow is fantastic... like butta! Love it with the gray and black.

  5. I think that's spring all over the place - add in a ton of wind and it's definitely been like that here the past couple of weeks. My issue is if I should wear tights or not when I wear skirts/dresses. But way to bring the sunshine with that skirt!

  6. So cute! I love the yellow skirt & black bootie combination.

We have the same weather problem here in nyc... it'll be bright, sunny, & warm one minute, then it'll be rainy & windy the next. I never know what to wear in this weather so I usually stick to jeans & converse (or rain boots if it's pouring).

Thanks for commenting & following me back =)

  7. Great look head to toe! Is your gray shirt a little bit metallic? I'd love to see the side profile of those nice boots.

Spring in Buffalo feels more like winter these days. But, most of the winter felt a lot like spring, so it's hard to complain!

  9. My weather is EXACTLY that psychotic. Spring in Oregon appears to be indistinguishable from spring in NW England.

I love the colour combo in this; grey is a really good contrast for yellow, I think. Looking lovely today!

  10. Cute outfit! I like the silvery accents. And thrifted Eileen Fisher is awesome. :)

  11. Spring in NC hasn't meant sunny either. It's actually been more like Seattle, forcing me to pull out tights and hose. Well, not forcing actually, I love them :P

The beautiful yellow skirt is a nice strong hint for the weather to share some sunshiny love.

Woman, you hit the nail on the head. Seriously. Also, I think this is the perfect PNW spring outfit compromise. I love it. (:

  14. Oh, I love this outfit! It's pretty but kind of tough-looking.

  15. It has been hellllla flippy-floppying back and forth between 80+ degrees and rainy and terrible lately. Ugh, weather, what are you doing? Your outfits are not suffering, anyway, which is good! Sometimes I just give up trying to figure the weather out and slouch around all day in saggy pants, a plain blouse, and my khaki coat, which is no fun for anybody.

  16. Our weather in Chicago is pretty crazy, too. A few weeks ago it was reaching 70s and 80s...now it's 50 and rainy. But once I bust out my peeptoes I have a hard time going back. Your boots look really cute with that yellow skirt!
