Sir Hems-a-Lot

Yes, there are pictures, but first we’re going to explore the etiology of today’s title.  Won’t that be fun?  (BTW: the answer we're looking for is yes, folks).

Sir: I don’t think I look particularly mannish in this outfit, but somebody called me ‘Sir’ today.  Maybe it’s because I didn’t wear earrings?  Let that be a lesson to you, Gentle Readers, accessorize or suffer the consequences.

Hems-a-Lot: I went on a hemming rampage a few weeks ago, taking quite a few of my midi-length dresses to above the knee.  Which isn’t to say I’ve given up midis; I just wanted a little variety.  This dress was one of the victims of that rampage:

Today:

Before:

Unlike previous outfits with this dress, I’m sans tights and I paired it with lighter, more spring-like accessories.  Instead of my dark brown boots, I opted for camel-colored ones (Steve Madden).  And in addition to the boots, I added a coral belt (Steve Madden via Ross), a couple of vintage bracelets (thrifted & gifted) and a watch.

Because faking Spring is almost as good as really having Spring arrive.

Happy Monday, Everyone!

  1. Was the person who called you sir perhaps a crazy homeless beggar? You look gorgeous in this, sweetie! It's so dainty-looking hemmed!

  2. Sir? Huh? Clearly, some people are just weird.

I liked that dress the first time, but the shorter length is awesome. I really need to dig my sewing machine out of whatever cupboard I stuck it in, and do some alteration of my own.

  4. I love the shorter hem! As you know, I go on hemming rampages with my dresses and skirts as well :)

Maybe the person who called you "sir" was just trying to be forward-thinking? On the TV show Castle, the female police chief makes everyone call her "sir" instead of "ma'am". (Can't say I blame her - I hate the word "ma'am".)

  5. Okay, NOW I AM going to hem the dress I'm wearing today. I've been on this same rampage, although the cutting and actual hemming will need to wait until the break between my semester.

  7. You never look mannish. More like tall and fabo. I love what you did with that dress, but I'm convinced that a skinny coral belt is an essential accessory. Note to self: get one.

  8. uhm was that person blind? That's the only way someone could call someone sir or maam. In my opinion, no one should ever use sir or maam unless they're talking to people in their 100s.

LOVE that dress and that cute belt!

  11. I'm kinda hoping I'll get a few "sirs" once I shave my head. Gender-bending is awesome.

Nooooiiiice job on the hemming! Last Thursday I took in a dress that I've had for nearly a year, and now I can't wait to bust it out. I think I used up all my sewing mojo, though...

  14. It's amazing how a few inches can make a difference. Before it was cute in a retro way, now it looks much more modern, think Urban Outfitter.

  20. Both gorgeous. Why the heck did someone call you sir? Was it on the phone? Is your voice deep? You do not look like a sir at all. Love the dress and the length. dawn suitcase vignettes xo
